How do you sort your ipod on your iphone?

i just got a new white iphone 4 and am syncing my songs from itunes, but on my ipod touch say if i had rihanna on there it would say rihanna like 4 times in the list instead of just having her once and having all her songs in one list bit on my ipod, theyd be scattered around and if it was rihanna ft someone that woudlnt come under rihanna that would come under a new word, do you know what i mean? i just want it all neat and tidy but im not sure how to do it! help anyone?
